Macerata is the new Italian Champion. Game 4 was epic at times, played in a superb fair play atmosphere. Macerata managed to pull it off on the road despite once again a fantastic Perugia, who had a terrific season. Led by captain Vujevic, the hosts took the first set before Macerata sorted their reception to turn things around and lead 2-1. The game reached another level in the fourth set with one stunning point after another. And then an infinite number of set and match points. The show ended at 33-35 on a Podrascanin spike, which got the Macerata clan running all over in celebration. Despite the loss, Perugia can also celebrate what has been a marvelous season in which the whole city rediscovered its love for the team.

As for Macerata, this is their third title in history after the ones conquered in 2006 and 2012. Giuliani’s men had dominated the regular season from start to finish with 18 wins and 4 losses, remaining unbeaten at home all season, 21 wins in as many games including cup and Champions League.
