The cup winner 2015 is Modena.

Seventeen years after its 3-0 victory over Cuneo, Modena lifted the trophy aloft for the 11th time in history. Lorenzetti’s men had the better of Trentino 3-1 in a packed PalaDozza arena in Bologna, and with many of the 5900 coming from Modena. Modena built their success on a better attack, 59% to 38%. The cup winners were led by the energy, talent and fighting spirit of the French Ngapeth, named MVP. Nemanja Petric was extremely solid too with 20 points, while Bruninho was the perfect guide of the squad. Kaziyski had a disappointing game but helped ignite a comeback in the third together with young outside hitter Nelli, but Modena was simply unstoppable in the fourth set.

Catia Pedrini (President Modena Volley): “I keep going and I will not take off the cap I am used to wearing. This is a phrase I was thinking about while I was driving up to Bologna, a phrase from Guccini in which there is my life philosophy. I told myself: if it happens, this is what I will say. I am extremely proud to be the president that got Modena back to victory after so many years, too many. The staff and the team have been terrific, and our fans too. The emotion is overwhelming: I am moved, this is an immense satisfaction. Seeing the supporters going crazy was a special feeling. It will be great to continue to celebrate”.

Andrea Sartoretti (Sport director Modena Volley): “I was on court in 2008 when Modena won its last trophy, I was on the bench today. These are two different emotions, but extraordinary, as a player you get it all out on court, while as a sport director let’s say that you need a little more patience. It’s a great feeling to lift this heavy Italian Cup, we won it by beating the strongest teams in the league. Modena is back where it deserves to be, at the top, that was the most important thing”.

Angelo Lorenzetti (coach Modena Volley): “I knew we could do it. We were up against a top team but I knew this team, these lads had everything needed to win the cup, and they did it. This is the victory of Modena, my Modena, a fantastic city that deserved a big triumph like this. We played well and handled the pressure fine, even when Ngapeth saw red, I am proud of the boys”.

Radostin Stoytchev (coach Energy T.I. Diatec Trentino): “Modena has played much better than us during the whole game and deserved to win this final. The result depended on the difference of quality expressed from the two squads. We struggled too much in attack, even with a positive reception because our opponents played great dig. We did not even manage to be effective at the net, so we really have to congratulate Lorenzetti’s team who showed more determination than us tonight. This defeat must be a motivation to start over with our feet on the ground. We knew what were the differences of level in this Final Four, this should not change anything at all for us. We’ll just go back to the gym and work to get better. Tonight we’re obviously extremely disappointed but we have to work for the future”.

Matey Kaziyski (Energy T. I. Diatec Trentino): “We gave it a fight especially in the third set, while we struggled to keep up with Modena in the other sets. Modena deserved the win but we’re disappointed we did not manage to turn things around after the third set. We got off to a poor start and we never recovered. But we don’t have time nor reasons to be sad. Tomorrow we’re off to Romania to play in the CEV Cup and put this negative memory behind us”.

Filippo Lanza (Energy T.I. Diatec Trentino): “At times we played good volleyball, but Modena has probably had it too easy, they had prepared the game well and played great dig on so many rallies. It’s no wonder they’re the favourite to win the league. We should not take this loss too negatively, because that can happen against such a strong opponent. But this final four proved we could play with anyone, we have been the surprise of this first part of season, and we will try to do as well in the second part. With heads high”.
