In front of the sell out crowd at PalaFlorio in Bari, Sir Safety Conad Perugia lifted the Del Monte Italian Cup for the first time in their history, by defeating long time rivals Cucine Lube Civitanova in an heart beating final. It was a very emotional game between the two best teams of this first part of italian volleyball season, with Giampaolo Medei’s team who started in the best way possible by winning first set 25-16, putting in trouble Perugia in reception and down the net. In second Lorenzo Bernardi’s team recated with class and continuity, improving the reception and putting in trouble Lube’s reception with strong serves with Alexander Atanasijevic, Ivan Zaytsev and Aaron Russell. Sir Safety Conad won the second 25-22 tying the game and putting some pressure on Civitanova. Also in third Perugia continued to push in serve and down the net, thanks to the outstanding job did by middle blockers Simone Anzani and Marko Podrascanin, who put on the ground a bunch of big blocks. Perugia won the third 25-20, looking forward to the win in fourth. Cucine Lube Civitanova fought back, fighting until the end also in fourth, coming back from a couple of breaks, and playing on the edge until the extras, killing a couple of match points to Perugia. In the end Sir Safety Conad Perugia put the last ball of the game on the ground for the final 27-25, exploding the enthusiasm on the court and on the stands, in a great volleyball showdown. Lorenzo Bernardi’s team won their first Italian Cup of their history, and counting. It was a big final, between two great teams, among the best teams in the world.

Osmany Juantorena (Cucine Lube Civitanova):We believed until the end, but we fell short. In second set we wasted alot of breaks, then referees gave us the red card when it was my turn in the serve. By the way Perugia played better than us and deserved the win. We will challenge them until the end of the season, they are the top team, as we are seeing in Superleague, and after what we saw in Supercup and Italian Cup”.

Aleksandar Atanasijevic (Sir Safety Conad Perugia): Civitanova played a great game, we fought back from first set, and we did it because we are a strong team. We are giving everything in practice, all our results are coming from those hard work. I ran to our fans, they are fantastic, the Italian Cup is for them”.
