THE SERIE A1 TIM KEEPS UP WITH AN UNREGULAR CALENDAR

AUDIENCE REPORT OF THE 2007/2008 REGULAR SEASON

From the show on court to the standings. The Serie A1 TIM has not betrayed the expectations and has kept up with a not very “regular” Regular Season, with 6 midweek rounds. The busy calendar of the International Competitions has imposed long pauses to the championship, from the 1st of movember to the 8th of december 2007 and from the 27th of december 2007 to the 15th of january 2008.
The Serie A1 TIM Clubs, despite this “stop and go” business and thanks to te constant attention to the audience, have managed to keep their spectators anyway, in fact the 2007/08 season is the third ever in terms of presences.
The Regular Season which has just been filed has registered 428,653 spectators in its 14 grounds, on average 2,355 per match. A number which is only 1.80% lower than the 2006/07 season.

WHAT A ROUND! The most watched round of the season was the 9th one of the 1st leg, played on the 9th of december 2007. Piacenza, Corigliano, Trento, Modena, Perugia, Cuneo and Milano have registered 20,568 people in total, 2,938 on average. That was the third ever most followed round, after 2005 and 2006 Boxing Day.
One of the “victims” of this strange Regular Season was the Boxing Day round, with only 4 matches played out of 7.

MODENA – CUNEO, A CLASSIC. The match most seen this season is one of the Serie A1 TIM superclassics between Cimone Modena and Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo, played on the 26th of december 2007. 10,396 hands, 5,198 spectators, have applauded and lived the stands up to the emotional tie break.

PALAPANINI, TEMPLE OF VOLLEYBALL. Modena PalaPanini, always considered one of the temples of volleyball, lives the old times in the stands. It has the most numerous audience of the regular season. The venue owns the season average of 3,706 spectators, 48,190 in the 13 matches hosted. Itas Diatec Trentino follows with 46,456 people and Acqua Paradiso Gabeca Montichiari with 43,654.

SISLEY WITHOUT BORDERS. Sisley Treviso is once again the team with no borders attracting the opponent’s audience too. Papi & Co. collected 2,935 spectators (on average) in their away matches.

PRESIDENT DIEGO MOSNA’S COMMENT. “The lower number of spectators registered in the 2007/08 regular season – The Volleyball League’s president explains – has been very limited and it is due to the structure of this championship. The many midweek rounds and the breaks have certainly affected the the audience but the interest and enthusiasm for our sport have been high anyway. Demostrating that are the Playoffs first two rounds which have registered more people than last year, also thanks to the Acqua Paradiso Gabeca Montichiari – Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo match. 15,909 spectators is a number which gives value to a venue that has been at the top for years in terms of presences at PalaGeorge. In the first two rounds of the quarterfinals, compared to the last season, we have has almost 4,000 more. From that point of view, we could not have had a better start”.
