In the opening semi-final of the A2 cup, the league leaders Padova kept control of proceedings from start to finish against Sora. They totally outplayed their opponents at the net, registering 14 blocks against only one for Sora. They were also more effective in attack: 49% vs 33%, although Sora had a better reception (77% vs 52%).

Valerio Baldovin (coach Tonazzo Padova): “We had a great game today, we made very few mistakes and made it hard for them. Superb performance in dig. The boys are extremely up for it, they really want to do well in this competition. Tomorrow will be another challenge and a tough game no matter who we’ll face”.

Filippo Vedovotto (Tonazzo Padova): “We played with a big will to win and played the perfect game. We’re working hard in training, hopefully we’ll play better and better. It’s true that us spikers we’re also giving a hand blocking, it’s important that everyone work towards one common target”.

Marco Fenoglio (coach Globo Banca Popolare del Frusinate Sora): “Padova proved to be much stronger, if they play that well, they not only deserve to win the cup but also the league. We’ve not played well but it’s true they have been playing with this line-up since the start of the championship so they have a consolidated organization. As for us, we had never sent this starting six before, and we paid the price for a lack of understanding”.

COSERPLAST OPENET MATERA – VERO VOLLEY MONZA 0-3 (19-25, 19-25, 17-25) – COSERPLAST OPENET MATERA: Luppi 9, Casulli (L), Joventino Venceslau 7, Krolis 14, Pedron, Lapacciana, Suglia, Giosa 1, Marretta 8. DNP Sette, Sette, Granito, Monteleone. Coach. Mastrangelo.

VERO VOLLEY MONZA: Elia 6, Bonetti 9, Tiberti 3, Padura Diaz 19, Pieri (L), Vigil Gonzalez, Botto 11, Cozzi 2, Krumins. DNP Procopio, Preval, Olivati, Puliti. Coach. Vacondio.

Monza joins Padova in the final of the A2 cup thanks to a straight set victory over Matera. Monza was tactically better prepared and led from start to finish. Matera had all its players back and available, Krolis included, while Monza could already count on young setter Krumins, signed last Thursday.

Oreste Vacondio (Coach Vero Volley Monza): “The intensity was good, you could see during the week they were ready. The boys were focused, and we had prepared the game well. We did fine in dig, we did a good job of reading their attacks. We could still cut on a couple of mistakes but the boys proved once more they had heart and great will to win. Everybody did well, the ones coming off the bench too, and they never stopped encouraging their teammates”.

Alberto Elia (Vero Volley Monza): “Great game, we did everything we had planned to do during the week. The jump serve and dig worked out fine, Pieri and the spikers did well, they allowed Padura Diaz to score very important points on the counter”.

Vincenzo Mastrangelo (Coach Coserplast Openet Matera): “We can do much more than that, that was another poor performance, very similar to the game lost against Padova. Today’s game confirm we’re making step backs in our game. The group reunited just three days ago, we’ll have to work in the gym to get back to our normal standard. Congratulations to Monza for its excellent performance and the deserved qualification”.

Adam White (Calzedonia Verona): “This was a very important win in my opinion, we wanted to start this second half of season with a positive result. This victory is the result of the hard work we did in the gym, our organization worked out very well today. We studied our opponents carefully and put in practice all the indications the coach gave us. It’s been a great game”.

Gianlorenzo Blengini (coach Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia): “We played a poor game, we did very little to win it. The beginning was not that bad, but then we struggled, we made things difficult for ourselves with a lot of missed serves that were not hit hard”.
