An intense spiritual experience in the Vatican for two national teams of Top Volley Cisterna. Damiano Catania and Matteo Staforini are among the athletes who were received by Pope Francis in a private audience on January 30th. Representing great volleyball in addition to the athletes of the men’s and women’s national teams, the Fipav President Giuseppe Manfredi and the General Secretary Stefano Bellotti, to experience an unforgettable day. “Sport is a convincing sign of unity and integration – the words of Pope Francis – bearer of a message of hope and great values”.

Damiano Catania (Top Volley Cisterna): “It’s not every day that you meet the Pope and participate in a private audience, especially through the sport that I practice every day. A very nice thing, I was struck by his words which metaphorically explained the link between volleyball and life. Great stimuli for the sense of belonging to the blue shirt and the whole context that surrounded us among the undisputed beauty of the room between sacred and culture”.

Matteo Staforini (Top Volley Cisterna): “This experience was truly unique and unforgettable. Meeting Pope Francis in person is something that not everyone has the opportunity to do, and I had it thanks to my passion, together with all my friends from the various national teams for the results obtained. A great emotion shared with people I love”.
