CEV Cup is coming up for Piacenza and Modena, the two SuperLega Credem Banca teams involved in the second European club competition. In the Quarter-Finals, the four teams that made it through the CEV Cup Play Offs will face the four third-placed teams from the group stage of the CEV Champions League 2023. A place in the Semi-final is up for grabs.
Bluenergy Daiko Volley Piacenza will open the CEV Cup round with the match scheduled for tomorrow, February 7, at 20.00 on French soil, on the Montpellier HSC VB field. The transalpine formation is the reigning French Champion, a title they won after 47 years; comes from Pool A of Champions, where he finished his adventure in third place in the standings with 1 win and 5 defeats in six games played. In the national championship he occupies the eighth position in the standings after nineteen days, with 28 points thanks to 9 wins and 10 defeats. On the last day of the championship, Montpellier defeated Cambrai 3-1 away last Saturday, bottom of the standings. Led by coach Olivier Lecat, Fabio Storti sits on the French bench as assistant coach, a few seasons ago in Piacenza as scout man. The red and whites are aiming to keep their winning streak alive in Europe, closing the defeat against Perugia on Saturday in the championship.
Valsa Group Modena is also revving its engines which, between the two internal matches at the PalaPanini of SuperLega Credem Banca on the 7th and 8th day, will be engaged in the away match in Ljubljana. In the Quarter Finals, the Valsa Group will face ACH Volley Ljubljana, third in the Champions League group in Perugia, right behind Sir and Ziraat Bank Ankara, with 2 wins and 8 points. The formation coached by Andrea Giani, who can now also count on the contribution of the Belgian spiker Rousseaux, is aiming for a good result in the first leg match and digging a furrow towards the Semifinal. The yellows have so far won all the CEV Cup matches played except the first leg of the Play Offs: at Luneburg, Bruno and his teammates had surrendered in the fifth set, then overturning the result in the second leg between the friendly walls.
The two return matches are both scheduled for Wednesday 15 February at 20.30, where the two Emilian teams will play the decisive match (and eventual Golden Set) in front of their own fans.
