After seventeen total seasons, all fourteen of which were played in Serie A2 Credem Banca with his team, Captain Luca Butti bids farewell to Campi Reali Cantù. One of the last remaining icons in the world of sport, the libero from Cantù leaves after two promotions, one relegation, and a remarkable 379 matches played in Serie B, all with the same jersey. This places him fifth in the special ranking of most “loyal” players, behind legendary players like Francesco “Pupo” Dall’Olio and Luca Cantagalli. Furthermore, he was also the first Libero Captain in this category, in the 2021/2022 season.
WORDS FROM PRESIDENT AMBROGIO MOLTENI
With the departure of our Captain for the last two seasons, Luca Butti, we lose another crucial piece of our history. He was a player who joined Libertas 17 years ago, just eighteen years old, and who has lived through the entire history of our club at the top.
I think it’s right that he finds a position at a higher level, one that can still give him the thrills and excitement that volleyball can provide.
We wish him the best of luck for his future, and we extend our heartfelt thanks for everything he’s done for us on this long and rewarding journey, which I’m confident he’ll have even more to share in the future.
WORDS FROM CAPTAIN LUCA BUTTI
I was a kid when I arrived in Cantù, at the age of 17, full of dreams, hopes, and a strong desire to prove myself.
Over the years, Libertas has allowed me to live my greatest passion every day, turning it into my job. It has helped me grow both professionally and personally, through emotions, joys, and sporting disappointments. So many memories and so many battles we’ve faced together, through championships full of satisfaction and others more difficult.
But above all, it has helped me grow as a person, making me who I am today.
I’ve always tried to give my best, both on and off the field.
I fondly remember the seasons I coached in the youth sector, trying to pass on my passion to the younger players.
Now, after another 17 years, I bid farewell with great affection to what has been my second home, where I’ve met so many friends and people with whom I’ve shared this important part of my life. Cantù has given me so much over the years, and I hope I’ve done the same. I can only thank President Ambrogio Molteni for the trust he’s shown me, and everyone else who, like him, has always believed in me.
Thanks, Cantù, it was wonderful!
