In spite of being without outside hitter Federico Moretti and with Ippolito not playing much, Potenza dominated Siena 3-1. A victory against one of the favourite teams of the coming season in the A2 and a nice present for coach Graziosi, who celebrated his 50th birthday on Thursday. The two teams will meet again in the opening encounter of the regular season on October 24 but tonight’s result does not mean much as Siena was also without their star player Milan Bencz.

“We are satisfied, this performance rewards all the hard work done in training – said spiker Oreste Cavuto – Me and Marco Pierotti came back from the World Championships in Mexico just a few days ago but we quickly settled in the group. I am taking responsibility in attack and he does the same in reception. The coach had told us before the game he would send an Under 23 line-up on court, and even if some veterans like Miscio and Ippolito came on, we can say we had the better of a quality team like Siena with a ‘baby line-up’”.
