Revivre Milano will be back home from tough road trip in Trento with 2 precious points, after the tie break win over Diatec Trentino. Last season at PalaTrento Angelo Lorenzetti’s team has been undefeated until the very last home game of the season, in the Playoff final versus Cucine Lube Civitanova. This loss at PalaTrento is the third consecutive loss for Diatec in this season, included the two losses in Del Monte Supercup last weekend in Civitanova. Lorenzetti did not put on the court Uros Kovacevic (in rest after some little physical trouble), but Milan totally deserved this win, playing without fear, putting on the court 11 aces, drove by an outstanding performance of dutchman Nimir Adbel-Aziz (logical MVP), who put on the ground 26 points. Trento will have time to come back and rabbing the first win of the seasson, but Milano ssems to be very strong, in this season.

Sir Safety Conad Perugia started with the right step this 2017/2018 Superleague season, in front of enthusiastic 3500 of PalaEvangelisti in Perugia, Lorenzo Bernardi’s team defeated with a great display of power Kioene Padova, who was coming from an importanto win in Piacenza in Del Monte Italian Cup Eight Finals, clinching the Quarterfinals gaining the chance to play this week once again here at PalaEvangelisti versus Sir Safety Conad Perugia. The day started with the introduction of Del Monte Supercup won last sunday in Civitanova, and the award to Sirmaniaci, the hard core fans, as the best and educate audience of the Superleague, with Jimmy George award. The game has no history for the first two sets, with Mvp Atanasijevic, 16 points, and Zaytsev (3 aces and 3 blocks for The Zar) in a great night, together with playmaker Luciano De Cecco, in an inspired night. A clear 3-0 win for PErugia, looking forward next games

Simone Anzani (Sir Safety Conad Perugia): “It was a good game, we are happy. In first two sets it was an easy one for us, in third we had some more troubles, probably physical, but we reacted the right way. We were down 4 points, and we foight back to win the set and match”.

Gabriele Nelli (Kioene Padova): “We started in trouble. It happened also on Thursday in Italian Cup in Piacenza. Perugia has great players and put us in trouble since the start. They are always very high and tall dowen the net, and this is never easy. We have to work alot”.

Gi Group Team Monza continues the positive streak at Candy Arena. Miguel Angel Falasca’s team, after the home win in Del Monte Italian Cup Eight Finals over Latina, trailed for the 3-1 win over Biosì Indexa Sora in Unipolsai Superleague 1st Round. Monza played without italian national team spiker and Gi Group captain Iacopo Botto (troubles with back spasms in the warm up), but in his place Jernej Terpin and Donovan Dzavoronok stepped up, helping gi Group to win this game. Terpin socred 7 points, and Mvp Dzavoronok took on his shoulders the team in the crunch time, scoring 16 points with 3 aces. After the clear win in first set, 25-17, thanks to a great performance in the serve for Seganov and Petkovic, Coach Mario Barbiero’s team struggled alot in second and third set, losing clearly both the sets 25-17 and 25-16, fighting back in fourth, but without be able to contain the offensive power and down the net (5 blocks for middle blocker Matteo Piano) of Gi Group, who won also fourth 25-21 and took home the first three points of the season.

Miguel Àngel Falasca (Gi Group Monza): “We were mentally strong on today. the team reacted after a bad first set, where we struggled alot in reception. With Terpin and Brunetti we improved in reception, and the rest, when you receive good, comes by far. It was bad to play woithout Botto, especially few minutes before the start of the game, but we are built to face every type of emergency, as we showed on today. Let’s continue this way, thinking about wednesday, with another crucial game”.

Mattia Rosso (Biosì Indexa Sora): “Too bad, we weren’t able to keep our first set’s level of play. Monza was good, profited of all our problems reading in the best way the game. they improved in reception in first set, they are able to adjust their play during the game. We are a young team, we need to find our identity”.

In first game of Unipolsai Superleague Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia and defending champs Cucine Lube Civitanova played a great and exciting game. The high level of volleyball that the players of two teams put on the floor was outstanding, with the champs who took advantage of their experience to play in the crunch time. The bad news for Giampaolo Medei’s team was the ankle injury to Tsvetan Sokolov after few plays in the game, who put bulgarian opposite on the bench for all the game. The first two sets were some battles both won by Lube, first at 23 and second at 22, with Osmany Juantorena and Taylor Sander who put on the ground several balls, well set by Micah Christenson. In third Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia fought back, winning 25-22 the set with a good performance of Francois Lecat, but in the fourth the defending champs stepped up, once again with a great Juantorena, winning fourth set 25-23, concluding a very intense and funny game.

Pieter Verhees (Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia): “We had a good reaction after the home loss versus Ravenna, we were always there fighting point by point with the defending champs. I’m proud of our game, but we can still improve”.

Taylor Sander (Cucine Lube Civitanova): “It was a siffered and tough win, Vibo never surrendered, playing very weel in the serve. After Sokolov’s injury it was tought for us, and to win here was very important. I’m very happy to be back in Italy, the volleyball level here is very high, as we saw on tonight”.

Wixo LPR Piacenza won on road at Pala De André in Ravenna defeating Bunge at the tie break, after an heartbeat game. Bunge started strong, by winning first set 25-22, and winning easily the second 25-13. It seems to be finished, but Piacenza reacted with heart, with Parodi and Giuliani on the court, clearly winning the third set 25-16 and taking home the fourth 25-22 completing a great comeback, winning in the end an heartbeat tie break 17-15. A block of Yosifov on 15-15 in tie break, and a spike of veteran opposite Alessandro Fei, gave the tie break win to Wixo Lpr, but the Mvp was Ludovico Giuliani, son of coach Alberto, who stepped on the court as libero, playing an outstanding game in defense and reception. After the home loss in Italian Cup, and after being down 0-2 in this game, Piacenza found the right mentality to step up and come back into the game. The best scorer for Wixo Lpr was trevor Clevenot with 17 points, on the other side of the net the best scorer was Buchegger with 21 points.

Fabio Soli (Bunge Ravenna): “This is a lost chance, it’s too bad. Piacenza is a team we could defeat, but we weren’t able to grab the chance to take home three points. We were in front 2-0, and this thing will not happens again so often in the future. We have to learn the lesson from this loss, back to the gym and practice hard, we should learn to suffer and have much more patience”.

Alberto Giuliani (Wixo LPR Piacenza): “We started in big troubles, with some troubles in reception. In third set I put in Parodi and Ludovico, and everything was better. I liked our mentality, in the bad moment, we never gave up when it seemed that everything was gone”.

It was a spectacular game at PalaBianchini between Taiwan Excellence Latina and Calzedonia Verona. More than two hours of pure volleyball show at the top level, with the first serve of the game by James Chih-Fang Huang, diplomatic from Taiwan and director of Taiwan External Trade Development Council and with a video salute of singer Tiziano Ferro. Good start for Verona, who won easily first set 25-22. Also the same music in the second, once again 25-22 in favour of Nikola Grbic’s team, with a great offensive effort by american Thomas Jaeschke (22-25). Sasha Starovic stepped into the game late in second set, but in the third he totally drove Latina to the 25-22 win. In fourth once again Starovic stepped up, taking Latina on his shoulders, putting several balls on the ground, unstoppable, helping Latina to reach the tie break by winning fourth 25-19. At tie break Latina earned a 9-4 lead, but the pride and the heart of Calzedonia drove Gialloblù to the tie at 14. After a some match points, the mistake of Starovic gave the 19-17 tie break win to Verona. MVP: Sasha Starovic (Taiwan Excellence Latina)

Vincenzo Di Pinto (Taiwan Excellence Latina): “In first two sets we lost but we were there, closed, in third we tried with Starovic, and he made the difference with great enthusiasm. The bad thing is we suffered a comeback from Verona in tie break”.

Nikola Grbic (Calzedonia Verona): “Starting the game we were helped by the absence of Starovic, then with him on the court they broke into the game. At the tie break we kept the faith, coming back and gaining these two points”.
