Cucine Lube Civitanova lost the big final of World Championships for Clubs, defeated by powerhouse Zenit Kazan, a fighting 0-3  (25-27, 22-25, 22-25) loss, which did not pot any shadows on the great performance of Giampaolo Medei in this top tournament. Lube defeated Sada Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte (3-0), Zaksa Polish Champs (3-2) iranians Asian Champs Sarmayeh Bank Teheran (3-0), and polish Skra Belchatow in semifinal (3-0).

 
Osmany Juantorena (10 points, 75% in attack) drove Lube into a big challenge in first set, but Zenit fought until the end and won the first 27-25. Civitanova came back into second set determined to come back, taking the lead on 12-9, but with a great Matt Anderson Kazan took a final lead in the crunch time, winning the second 25-22.
Also in third Lube fought until the end, until the tie at 17, when Kazan broke the tie and won set and match 25-22.
 
 
Giampaolo Medei (Cucine Lube Civitanova): “We’re a little bit disappointed, we played a good game versus the best team in the world, and we competed. We did not took advantage of the chances we had in first set, we were in trouble with reception and side out. We can still improve, but we showed we can compete with everybody, everybody gave all they have, I’m proud”.

 
Osmany Juantorena (Cucine Lube Civitanova): “Winning first set probably could change something in the game. They always put us some pressure, but they did an outstanding job. I’m happy for the Mvp award, it would be better if we would win the title, but it’s ok the same. Now let’s think to the other targets in the season”.
 
Jenia Grebennikov (Cucine Lube Civitanova):  “We competed until 20 in every set, playing at their same level. they made the difference with the serve. We played very well in this tournament, we are happy for our performance”.
