The Serie A Volleyball League and the Serie A Basketball League, representatives of the major Italian indoor sports, sound the alarm on skyrocketing energy costs: the expenses for sports halls seriously jeopardize corporate budgets, already heavily undermined by the Covid seasons .

The need to intervene on energy costs in aid of sport, also expressed by the national sports leaders, has become urgent. Many sports halls are not only frequented but often managed by the Serie A clubs that keep them operational all day: they host the training sessions of the first teams but also all the technical sessions of their youth teams (as well as other sports), from morning to night founds. The lighting systems that are always active and, in the next winter season, the costs for heating risk bringing the planned costs of sports management to exaggerated levels.

The president of the Basketball League Umberto Gandini and the president of the Serie A Volleyball League Massimo Righi underline the gravity of the moment: “Over the years many of our clubs have tried to adapt the systems, modifying lights and thermal systems to reduce consumption to a minimum. But not even in the most “green” sports halls will it be possible to sufficiently contain the weight of the bills, boulders for the Clubs that have to illuminate and heat forcedly huge structures. If the costs are perhaps affordable in the days of collection, they simply become crazy in the weekly management. For this we really need the help of the government to support our business “.
