All in one night. The most beautiful and difficult tournament in the world will end on Wednesday 17 May, at 8.30 pm, with the fifth round of the Scudetto Final between the hosts Itas Trentino, runners-up at the end of the Regular Season, and the outgoing Italian champions Cucine Lube Civitanova, fourth at the finish line in the first phase of the tournament. The BLM Group Arena in Trento, packed in every order of place, is preparing to host the showdown, which will be the fifth “sold out” match in as many Finals. So far the home factor has dictated the law in the challenge for the best of five games and both teams have lost a starter in the race. Angelo Lorenzetti’s Gialloblù prevailed 3-1 in the first round and 3-0 in Game 3, losing central defender Srecko Lisinac, who was operated on last week on his lumbar spine, while Gianlorenzo Blengini’s red and whites got the better of the photo finish in Race 2 and in four sets in the fourth match of the series managing to remain competitive despite the absence of the opposite Ivan Zaytsev, stopped by a distracting trauma to the shoulder with a muscle injury and, consequently, almost certainly also out of the competition. If in the face-offs in Trentino it was Matey Kaziyski who attracted the applause with two MVP titles, in Civitanova the central Barthelemy Chinenyeze signed his best performance of the season in Game 2, while the spiker Marlon Yant was the absolute ruler of the game 4.

Trento is chasing the fifth Scudetto in the ninth Final and wants to break a fast that has lasted since the last tricolor season, i.e. the 2014/15. Civitanova dreams of the hunchbacked blow away to get his hands on the fourth consecutive Scudetto, which would be the eighth won out of nine participations in the Scudetto Finals. If successful, the team from the Marches would set a record. In fact, to date no team has ever won three consecutive series in game five (it’s only the tenth time that all series have been best-of-five). The case has already occurred of a team that won by playing the game in every round: Perugia in 2017/18 defeated Ravenna 2-1 in the quarterfinals, Trento 3-2 in the semifinals and Civitanova in the final always 3-2.
