This year’s Christmas Match, for Pool Libertas Cantù, will be away, and coincides with the penultimate day of the first round of the Serie A2 Credem Banca. The Canturini will be on stage on Sunday 17 December 2023 at 7.00 pm in the home of the newly promoted Abba Pineto. The Abruzzo team have come from 4 consecutive defeats, the last two in tie-breaks, the last in particular on the pitch of the undefeated league leaders Yuasa Battery Grottazzolina, coming back from 0-2.

Coach Francesco Denora Caporusso presents the challenge like this: “We are preparing for a long trip, after an intense week in which we played 15 sets in 7 days, and therefore managing energy in this phase can be fundamental. The race will also require a good dose of competitive spirit: Pineto is an important team, as well as one of our direct competitors; has changed a lot during the season, so they are in a phase of running in and introducing new ones, but we are still talking about expert players for the category. It will be essential to limit their blocking and try to give continuity to the excellent work in changing the ball done in the last match.”

THE OPPONENTS

Coach Giacomo Tomasello is in his second season on the bench of Abba Pineto. In the control room we find an “old acquaintance” of the category such as Matteo Paris, also confirmed in Abruzzo. The opposite is the Polish Mateusz Frac, who is having his first experience outside his country of origin. The spikers are two new faces in Abruzzo: Paolo Luigi Di Silvestre from BCC Castellana Grotte and Gianluca Loglisci from Consoli McDonald’s Brescia. The central defenders are the German of Croatian nationality Kruno Nikacevic, also having his first foreign experience, and Rok Jeroncic, who last season helped Farmitalia Catania win promotion from Serie A3 Credem Banca. The libero is Alessandro Sorgente, last season at Maury’s Com Cavi Tuscania, but for many years a protagonist both in Serie A2 Credem Banca and in the SuperLega.
