Sense of belonging to the team, work, motivation and ambitions: these are the keywords that the new coach of OmiFer Palmi, coach Giancarlo D’Amico, will try to transfer immediately to the blue roster to trace a path as protagonists in the next season League Volleyball Serie A3 Credem Banca, “Blue” group.

The passage of the 43-year-old Lucanian coach, originally from Lauria (PZ), from the bench of Avimecc Modica to that of “Franco Tigano” was made official a few hours after the mutual farewell between the Sicilian club and the coach who, after the brilliant two-year experience at the PalaRizza with the blue-and-whites showed the will and the need to get closer to home.

“My choice – explained the young coach – was dictated by the important priority of wanting to experience the area a little more and, therefore, to stay a little closer to home, being from Lauria, a city which, practically, it is attached to your region. I recognize in me what is also a spirit of revenge in bringing quality to our lands: this is the concept that I have tried to carry forward in recent years, starting from 2018 to today. After working my way up and having a lot of experience in Northern Italy, I would like to be able to put my expertise and, obviously, everything I learned in the North at the service of the companies in the South. But, above all, I chose Palmi because I found a company that wants to do well, thus marrying my personal ambitions”.

A rich curriculum that of Giancarlo “Gianco” D’Amico, as a leader despite his young age: he began his career in the late 90s as an instructor at the “CS Volleyball Lauria” training center; in 2002-03 he was second coach of the regional selection of Basilicata and, in the same year and also the year after, he held the role of first coach of the provincial selection of Potenza. Years in which, from 2000 to 2005, he sat on the bench of “CS Volleyball Lauria”, in Serie C. From 2005 to 2008, he coached “Virtus Potenza” from under 18 and 16 up to regional C and D series, passing through first and second division. The following year he arrived in Calabria, in Cosenza, again in Serie C. From 2012 to 2015 he was assistant coach and head of statistics before the “ESCR Le Cannet-Rocheville VolleyBall (FRA) – women’s A1 series, and then of the” Exprivia Molfetta” – men’s A1 series.
