Born in 1992, but for more than 10 seasons a permanent presence in the second national category. This is the identikit of the new setter of Pool Libertas Cantù. This is Matteo Pedron, the last two seasons in Cuneo at Banca Alpi Marittime Acqua San Bernardo, but who made his debut in Serie A2 in the 2012/2013 championship in the Tonazzo Padova jersey.

“I am very happy that Matteo has accepted our proposal to come and play for Libertas this year – says the President Ambrogio Molteni -. It’s definitely a weighty signing, and a great talent I’ve been trying to bring to us over the past few years. In this way we replace the departure of Alessio Alberini, who will play next year in Prata di Pordenone, after his decision to move closer to home. With this very important purchase we have secured a key figure like that of the setter, and I am absolutely convinced that we will do very well with him”.

Coach Francesco Denora comments on the new arrival: “We strongly wanted Matteo for his undoubted technical and human qualities. I had the pleasure of working with him in 2018/2019 in Lagonegro, and I know very well what he can give this team on the pitch and in the locker room. It has made a big leap in quality in recent years with important experiences, and has certainly established itself among the best in its category. He will want to redeem himself from last season, which was stingy with satisfaction, while we aim to further grow in the quality of our game. Pedron has the right characteristics to exalt our strikers and entertain us and our fans. We still want to have our say, and with this blow I must say that the road is well traced”.

These, however, are the player’s words: “I chose Cantù because I know the coach and the players well, and I knew that the team’s squad would remain almost unchanged. Furthermore, given the names that are in the team, it is a very attractive proposition. Consequently, as soon as there was a chance, I signed. My expectations for next season are high: Pool Libertas is coming from an excellent year, so we’ll need to try to reconfirm. It won’t be easy because the next one will also be a very balanced championship, and we’ll always have to be ‘on the spot’. On a personal level, my goals are to grow and get involved, because it’s something I have forced myself to do every year. And obviously try to confirm ourselves at high levels”.
