Gas Sales Daiko Piacenza’s adventure in the Cev Champions League Volleyball 2024 ends in the Quarter Finals. From a fiery Hala Widowiskowo – Sportowa the red and whites emerge defeated, Jastrzebski Wegiel conquers the Semi-finals with a victory without giving up a set to the red and whites who won in the first leg at the tie break.
Having lost the first set, Gas Sales Daiko Piacenza also had a four-point lead in the second half and a set point available before capitulating. And with the hosts ahead 2-0 everything became more difficult, the red and whites actually started to play the third set when they found themselves 20-12 down and the great comeback seemed to have been made at 21-20 but the Poles they found the winning move. Romanò’s thirteen points were not enough, too many gratuitous errors in attack and ineffective hitting of the block.
THE MATCH – At the start of the match, coach Anastasi sends Brizard and Romanò onto the field diagonally, Simon and Caneschi in the center, Lucarelli and Leal at the flank, Scanferla is the libero. On the other side of the net, coach Mendez responds with Toniutti and Patry diagonally, Gladyr and Huber in the center, Fornal and Szymura at the back while Popiwczak is the libero.
It’s battle straight away in a sold out Hala Widowiskowo – Sportowa. In addition to the president Elisabetta Curti, around twenty Red and White Wolves were in the stands. The first attack goes to the hosts (10-7) but Gas Sales Daiko Piacenza immediately shortens the lead with Caneschi’s first half and immediately after the ace from the same central defender (10-9). New Polish lead (12-9), two bombs from Simo and it’s 13 all, the tug-of-war continues for a few more exchanges and at 15 all it’s Jastrezbski who goes back again (18-15). The red and whites struggle to find the measure from the nine meter line, Caneschi’s error precedes Leal’s attack (21-17), Romanò’s ace brings his team back to three points behind the Poles (22-19). Leal’s serve on the net gives three set points to the hosts (24-21), the first is canceled out by Simon, Gladyr closes.
