Virtus Aversa is preparing for Game 1 of the quarterfinals of the Serie A2 men’s volleyball playoffs, scheduled for Sunday, March 23 at 6:00 p.m. at the Palazzetto di Cuneo against the home team of MA Acqua San Bernardo. A crucial challenge, which setter Fernando “Fefè” Garnica analyzes with clarity and determination.

“I don’t think it’s right to forget what happened in the previous match (the last of the regular season, 1-3 at the PalaJacazzi against Cuneo), we need to learn, acknowledge the mistakes and work to improve. We need to avoid those drops that cost us some sets and be able to play at our best from start to finish, as we showed we can do in the fourth set against Cuneo. Sometimes it doesn’t take much, those 1-2 balls managed better, to turn the game in our favor”.

A balanced championship, where the home field advantage had a relative value: “This year we have seen that those who play at home do not always have a guaranteed victory. Few teams have managed to respect the home field advantage and even Prata di Pordenone (the league leaders), at the end of the championship, suffered a home defeat. Playing the first match away can be a double-edged sword, because if on the one hand the advantage is having a possible ‘draft’ at home, on the other it can increase the pressure on the home team, who feel they cannot make mistakes”.

Garnica then highlights the importance of the mental approach: “The only ones who take to the field are the six of us on one side and the six on the other. Of course, the public counts, and at our home they pushed us a lot, but they will also have their support.
