Luca Loreti, libero for Gas Sales Bluenergy Volley Piacenza, will be playing with the Italian Under-21 national team at the World Championships for the category, scheduled for August 21-31 in Jiangmen, China.
After completing their training camp in Tokyo, Japan, the Italian team led by coach Vincenzo Fanizza will debut at the World Championships on Thursday, August 21, against Indonesia.
The Italian national team is in Group D with Argentina, Turkey, France, Ukraine, and Indonesia. Twenty-four national teams are divided into four groups of six teams each. At the end of the matches, the top four teams in each group advance to the round of 16. The subsequent stages will see the teams compete in single-elimination rounds: round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals. The bottom two teams in each group will compete in playoffs for the 17th to 24th place finishes.
The Azzurri won the competition for the first time in 2021, at the World Championship held on home soil in Cagliari. They won silver medals in 2019 and 2023, as well as in 1985, 1991, and 1993. They also won bronze medals in 1995 and 2013.
