A quick two-day stay to get his first taste of what will be his new home for at least the next two seasons: this is what German middle blocker Simon Valentin Torwie has been experiencing in the last few hours.
His eagerness to get to know Trento and Trentino Volley is so great; after finishing his training camp in Lüneburg with Germany on Saturday evening, the twenty-three-year-old German ranked third has set off for Italy, arriving in his destination on Sunday evening. He will remain in the city until Wednesday morning before moving on to Turin to play a four-team tournament next weekend in preparation for the upcoming World Cup against Italy, the Netherlands, and Türkiye.
“I didn’t want to wait until the end of September to get to know the new environment I’ll be living in for the next two years,” Simon explained. “So, taking advantage of a two-day break with the national team and upcoming commitments in Piedmont, I asked the club if I could come here at the beginning of this week. This will allow me to fully immerse myself in this new environment as soon as the World Championships are over, because I’ll need to start thinking about volleyball right away, not everything else. I’m thrilled with my first impressions of this new environment; it’s all fantastic, and I’m not just referring to the places, but also to the people I’m meeting these days. Everything is perfectly organized; being in Trento is already a wonderful experience.”
