There are players who arrive, leave a memory (good or bad), and leave again. And then there are those who, season after season, stop being simply athletes on a team and become part of the place that welcomed them. Like Marco Cubito.
A Sicilian middle blocker, born in 1992, 202 centimeters tall and with a career that has taken him far from his homeland, Cubito is preparing to experience his eighth season wearing the Grotte jersey. A number that already says a lot. Because in modern volleyball, where paths change rapidly and lasting bonds are increasingly rare, staying in the same place for so long is never a coincidence.
Also for this reason, today, without being the most experienced of the group, Marco finds himself one of the veterans on the roster that will face the Serie A2 championship. A role that isn’t earned only with the years, but with the way you experience them. “Seven seasons is a long time, and honestly, I never imagined I’d become so attached to this reality.” And this sentence already contains much of the story.
Because Cubito arrived in Grottazzolina from a small Sicilian town, with the dreams and expectations of many young people who choose to pursue volleyball far from home. Today, however, the meaning of home has changed. “I left a small Sicilian town with many dreams, and today I can say that Grottazzolina has become my second home.” A bond that over time has transcended the court.
