Reggio Calabria – The music is that of great occasions. The countdown has begun, and time has stopped at 7:00 PM on Sunday. At Palacalafiore, the championship finale will take place, with Domotek Volley ready to challenge Belluno Volley in a match with a clear outcome: the winner will advance to Serie A2.
On the eve of the most important match of the season, Coach Antonio Polimeni’s voice is filled with emotion, but also with a rock-solid awareness, the fruit of a three-year journey that has already rewritten the history of Reggio Calabria volleyball.
“Fortunately, we’ve heard this famous phrase, ‘the most important week,’ several times this year,” Polimeni begins. We’ve reached the end of every competition, winning two of them with two trophies already in the bag. It’s an extraordinary result, difficult for anyone to predict. We’ve always been ambitious, since the club’s inception, but to expect four finals and already bring home the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa is something extraordinarily unthinkable.”
Despite the weight of what’s at stake, the coach’s approach is surprisingly calm. The secret? Having already experienced moments of extreme pressure during a year he himself calls “magical.”
“We’re living with tremendous emotion,” he continues. “We can’t wait for Sunday, both us and our fans. We’re enjoying these last training sessions with these guys, an extraordinary group. It’s been a real pleasure to be able to experience them every day, like last year, like two years ago. We’re happy with the journey we’ve made over these three years, not just this year. We’ve added a piece of history to this year, something we’ll carry with us forever. Regardless of the result, we have charted an important path for the club and for the future of volleyball in Reggio Calabria.”
The crowd factor is further boosting the adrenaline. After the record capacity recorded in recent matches, the Palacalafiore is preparing for a veritable crowd. Middle blocker Andrea Innocenzi was joking in his latest interview about the capacity of the stands, but the mission is clear: to almost sell out.
“The Volley Mania we talked about at the beginning of last year has become massive,” Polimeni confirmed. “A sold-out crowd of 9,000? I don’t think so, but there will certainly be many more than at the last match.
