With two days to go until Game 1 between Sir Susa Scai Perugia and Cucine Lube Civitanova, the two teams are ready to battle for the Scudetto in a Finals series that promises to be exciting and full of exciting challenges. One of the final installments of “Towards the Scudetto Finals” focuses on the performances of the two finalist teams and their key players, providing a more statistical and numerical perspective.
The two teams concluded the Regular Season differently: Perugia finished in first place (58 points, 20 wins, and only 2 losses), while Civitanova built its path to the Finals, finishing in sixth place (40 points, 13 wins, and 9 losses). In the Quarterfinals, Perugia defeated Monza in three games, repeating their feat in the Semifinals against Piacenza; Civitanova, on the other hand, after eliminating Italian champions Trento 3-0, faced Verona, sweeping the series in four games.
Perugia is slightly ahead in the season’s winning attacks (1,535 to Civitanova’s 1,470), but not in terms of service winners, as the team from the Marche region is third in the rankings (239 total aces; Modena leads with 279, while Perugia is sixth with 168). Looking at winning blocks, however, the Block Devils are second (262 blocks, tied with Piacenza); Civitanova is slightly behind, with 245 blocks, placing fifth.
Now let’s take a look at the key players on each team: in terms of points scored, Aleksandar Nikolov leads with 635 total points, followed by Ferre Reggers (Allianz Milano, 602) and Noumory Keita (Rana Verona, 554). In the top 20 of seasonal scorers, Wassim Ben Tara is in fourth place (488 points for the Sir opposite hitter), Mattia Bottolo is in fourteenth place (356), followed closely by Oleh Plotnytskyi (355). Eric Loeppky (349) and Kamil Semeniuk (322) also find space.
Aleksandar Nikolov is ready and, with his 76 aces this season (second only to Modena’s Paul Buchegger, 89), he can play a significant role. Likewise, Mattia Bottolo (seventh, 50 aces) will try to make an impact. At Sir Susa Scai Perugia, Oleh Plotnytskyi (49) is in eighth place, while Eric Loeppky and Kamil Semeniuk (36 and 33 service winners, respectively) are fourteenth and fifteenth.
From winning serves to blocks, with several specialists ready to do battle: if the first position for winning blocks is steadily occupied by Thomas Beretta from Brianza (64 blocks), in sixth position is the Argentine Agustin Loser (45), with Oleh Plotnytskyi and Wassim Ben Tara sharing ninth place (43 each). Mattia Bottolo is eleventh (41), Aleksandar Nikolov thirteenth (40). Roberto Russo, author of 35 blocks so far, is also in the Top 20.
