President Massimo Righi, the Board of Directors, all the clubs, and the staff of the Lega Pallavolo Serie A express their condolences for the passing of Luciano Gaspari, who passed away today at the age of 74.

One of the most important and iconic referees in the history of Italian volleyball has passed away, a true benchmark for the sport.

He was a Serie A referee from 1975 to 2007, enjoying a splendid career both in Italy and internationally. He also participated in the Athens Olympics, where he officiated a semifinal match. During his tenure, he refereed over 650 Serie A matches, including countless finals.

In 2015, he was elected President of the European Volleyball Referees, and in 2020, Honorary President of the Referees Commission. In 2019, he became the first referee to be inducted into the Volleyball Hall of Fame.

Our deepest thoughts and condolences go to his family and loved ones.
