“We filled the PalaCalafiore with 7,000 people. After 38 years, Reggio Calabria is back to dreaming of promotion to Serie A2.” Cesare Pellegrino, former Italian volleyball player, the glory of Italian volleyball, and current sporting director of Domotek Volley, spoke candidly during the latest episode of the national program Effetto Volley, hosted by Domenico Abbriano.
Domotek is coming off a historic season: victory in the Coppa Italia, triumph in the Supercoppa, and promotion to Serie A2 after the playoffs. A perfect year, built brick by brick. “We built a better-equipped team than last year,” Pellegrino explains. “Improving meant reaching the final, and we did it. Then the Supercoppa against our bête noire, Reggio Emilia, and finally promotion in front of seven thousand people. We’re elated, but it was all deserved, even if the journey was long, difficult, and full of pitfalls.” The final act, last Sunday, put an end to a 38-year wait: “Reggio Calabria was missing a promotion like this. From my time as a player with Jonicagrumi Volley to today, volleyball fever has returned.”
