Two matches on Saturday kick off the 20th round of the SuperLega Credem Banca Regular Season: the third-to-last day of the championship began with wins for Vero Volley Monza, who defeated Sonepar Padova, and Valsa Group Modena, who defeated Cucine Lube Civitanova in a tiebreaker.
The 3-0 victory for the Brianza team allows Massimo Eccheli’s team to take a significant step toward the playoffs, consolidating their eighth place. Frascio (named MVP of the evening) and his teammates will have to wait for the result of the match between Cisterna and Cuneo, scheduled for 5:00 PM tomorrow. Among the key players was the Italian opposite hitter, who scored 19 points; Atanasov also scored in double figures.
Modena also won: the yellow-blues, leading by two sets, initially suffered a comeback from Civitanova, who played well and took the match to a tie-break, only to then manage to take the match by winning the crucial fifth set. The Emilians thus moved closer—at least temporarily—to Trento’s third-place finish, while Civitanova climbed to 35 points, thus maintaining their sixth spot. The MVP was Davyskiba (16 points), while Civitanova’s Argentine opposite hitter Kukartsev, who came on as a substitute during the match and scored 12 goals, also performed well.
