Academy Volley Lube finished fifth in Caorle. Coach Alessandro Paparoni’s team finished the U17 National Finals with a strong showing. This morning, Sunday, May 24th, Lube got their revenge against Kioene Padova, defeating the Venetian team 3-1 (23-25, 25-17, 25-17, 25-17) at the Palasport Luciano Valerio. This was a great achievement for the team from the Marche, who in the final round of Group F had missed out on a clean sweep and top spot, losing in four sets to the team from Padua after brilliant wins by a narrow margin against Academy Warriors Viagrande and Sir Mericat Nera.
The slip to second place in the Pool had cost the red and whites a quarterfinal match against Fenice Roma Pallavolo, who won three sets on Saturday, leaving Lube with 18, 21, and 14 in each set. The Cucini team responded that evening with a resounding victory in the thrilling semifinal for fifth place against Trentino Volley SRL SSD (25-17, 27-25, 25-16). This show of strength paved the way for the decisive match to enter the national top 5, complete with a liberating victory against Padua.
Alessandro Paparoni (head coach of Cucine Lube Civitanova U17):
“The boys showed me their determination in the sprint for fifth place against Trento and Padova. In Group F, after two strong wins, we lost 3-1 to Padua, but it must be said that we were already certain of qualification and that, once we won the first set, we paid the price for being too relaxed, slipping into the first real difficulties. We came to Veneto to win as many as possible, and we did our job, with only one major regret. The team let itself be betrayed by emotion in the quarterfinals against Fenice Roma. We didn’t play as we know how, and that prevented us from reaching the semifinals. I got the answers I wanted with the reaction in the chase for fifth place. A great step forward from last year.”
