Cuneo –  Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo’s lidership was not in doubt. M. Roma Volley could have given their best, like they did, getting closer to the leader, but the home team has defended the first place with their nails, only to surrender at tie break.

Prandi’s men started really fast: the service goes around from the very first balls and captain Wout Wijsmans gives a super performance in attack. Roma is not getting into the match, also due to their own mistakes that give them continuity and Cuneo’s attention on each ball. Roma’s attack falls to 37% and for Bre Banca Lannutti, closing the set becomes a piece of cake.

The match changes completely in the second set. M. roma Volley copies perfectly what Cuneo had done before. Three aces and head spinning pecentages in attack: Ivan Miljkovic scores 7 out of 9 balls given to him by Manuele Coscione. The third set is the one that shows the teams real worth. They play head to head giving the 4000 people in the audience an exciting show. Cuneo gets the first set ball on 24-23 but Ivan Miljkovic is amazing: he blocks for 24-24. Thanks to Kasko’s mistake, Roma has their first chance to go ahead of Cuneo who take advantage of a mistake by Mastrangelo to play their second setball. It is still Miljkovic who puts a great ball down but Wijsmans attack and Gonzalez’s block close the fight.

The forth set end on photo finish as well, but this time it is the guest team who hangs on a great Miljkovic forcing Cuneo to tie break.

Roma goes on 8-4 and does not let Wijsmans’ three aces intimidate them, violating Cuneo’s grounds for the first time this year.

Daniele Vergnaghi (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “There is a little regret but we gave it everything. We knew we were playing a tough  match and I am sure it was played at a very high level”.

Luigi Mastrangelo (M.Roma Volley): “It was a great match between two strong teams. The result gives both teams the chance to have a nice Christmas. It is always emotional to come back here and find this palasport and its supporters”.

Roberto Serniotti (M. Roma Volley): “A great fight full of emotions for the audience who certainly had a good time. It looked like a play offs’ match. I have to compliment Silvano Prandi and his staff because they are working well. We are certainly not playing the best volleyball we can play but we are working really hard”.

Silvano Prandi (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “The match was very interesting especially from the third set. I love these matches because we finally found a very strong opponent, we had not lost a set at home yet. With this match our faults came out and we will work on them now”.

MVP: Ivan Miljkovic (M. Roma Volley)

Taranto – 10th consecutive defeat for Prisma who start well but does not take advantage of a Sisley who are still looking for their best game. The home team wins the first set thanks to a block (6 winning points just in this set). Treviso gets the maximum result with the minimum effert taking advantage of the other team’s many mistakes (38 in total) from the second set.  Horstink is very reliable in zone 4 (21 points and 51% pos. attack) and they have a great digging with Farina doing amazingly in at least two occasions.

With this success, Sisley is up for the Italian Cup’s final phase while Prisma is waiting for opponents on their level to capitalise on the progress made with Lattari.

Renan Dal Zotto (Sisley Treviso): “I am soory about my friend Radamès but we needed points for the Italian Cup’s Final Eight. We are not playing well and we know that so we just take home what we can from this match. We digged well at the times that Prisma could have come back in the match”.

Radames Lattari: (Prisma Taranto): “I am still satisfied with the boys performance which has been the best one since I have been here. We had an opponent who, despite not being on top form, lines up some real champions who strike when needed”.

MVP: Robert Horstink (Sisley Treviso)

Trento – Itas Diatec Trentino scores their three points against Piacenza at the end of a match which, as expected,  was full of emotions and agonistic intensity. The victory is signed by Vladimir Nikolov, MVP with 25 points and 68& in attack rather than Matey Kaziyski, still decisive at the end of the 4th set.

Once lost the battle in the first set won after a few set balls on both sides by Trento,  Piacenza had a black out in the second set then came back in the third one (won thanks to Lorenzetti’s great changes with Granvorka, Bjelica and Rodriguez in the starting six) and the 4th one when the teams fought head to head until the end before Kazijski and Nikolov ended it with their signature.

Trento wins and thans to Roma’s victory at tie break, they fly to second place. Piacenza does not move in the standings but, after their victory in Treviso they still confirm their positive moment.

Gregor Jeroncic (Itas Diatec Trentino): “In this match we demonstrated to be able to be competitive even witough Winiarski and with a Kaziyski not in great shape; it was not easy but it was an important victory because won with attitude and against a team that has changed its assett a few times”.

Frantz Granvorka: (Copra Nordmeccanica Piacenza):  “We keep changing formation so we cannot find our game; it is a shame not having scored a point but we were missing at crucial moments in the first and forth set and Trento punished us”.

MVP: Vladimir Nikolov (Itas Diatec Trentino)

Macerata – At Palafontescodella in Macerata, the expectation is confirmed. Lube Banca Marche beats Andreoli Latina for 3-1 and conquers their seventh victory this season, obtaining three important points to qualify in the newx Tim Cup.

No problems with the formations on either side. The first two sets are played one way with Lube being the master even though the guests, especially in the first set, try everything to make it difficult for  De Giorgi’s boys. A big mistake costs Latina a lot when Swiderski puts a ball down by setting it on the other side. At the end Lube wins the first set for 25-23 and the second one for 25-20.

In the third one there is a great reaction by Andreoli Latina with a great performance bith in attack and service. Macerata gets distracted and Latina re-opens the match. For Gulinelli’s men the illusion lasts very little because Omrecen and Vermiglio’s aces close the set. Lube gets confident and with a string attack (78% in the 4th set), wins the set for 25-19.

Giordano Mattera (Andreoli Latina): “There is plenty of regret for our mistake at the end of the 1st set. If we had paid more attention and avoided such a point, the match could have ended in a different way. In the 3rd set we finally expresses a very good volleyball but we needed to keep up with the rhythm in the following set”

Martin Lebl (Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “We have been very good at reacting so well after a set where we did not manage to express ourselves like we wanted to. It is an important victory but we have to look at the next match already which will be in rome against a great team. Now we need three points to access the TIM Cup”.

MVP: Martin Lebl (Lube Banca Marche Macerata)

Padova – More emotions at PalaNET. for the 9th times out of 12 matches, Antonveneta Padova terminates a match a tie break. Perugia demontrates to be able to play a great volleyball and being passed the difficult phase they went through at the beginning of the season.

In the first set, Padova manages the game but Perugia show Stork off. Despite that, the home team carries on being 2-3 points ahead. The first set is then closed on 25-22.

In the second set Padova plays their worst 21 minutes of the season, with continuous serving and digging mistakes. Perugia takes advantage with Kromm spiking bombs at PalaNET. The set closes on 16-25. The third set seems like the photocopy of the previous one with coach Bagnoli putting everyone in for Antonveneta: Olli, Bellini and Quarti. De Togni and Diaz’ absences make a difference with Perazzolo not on top form (right shoulder’s problem). We go the the 4th set convinced that Perugia can close the match but that is when Padova reacts. The team get their nails out and Platenik goes on an unprecedented agonistic high. He becomes the star collecting 29 points in the set and becoming the match MVP. The 4th set is a real battle but it ends on 25-23 with De Marchi’s spike which reopens the match. At tie break it is still an head to head business and Antonveneta grabs the 2 points they did not hope for in the end”.

Bruno Bagnoli (Antonveneta Padova): “Despite the injuries we showed some pride. We knew it would have been a very difficult match, but we won it and we can now celebrate Christmas nicely. With regards to the Italian Cup this was a key match but we can only say it for sure after Piacenza”.

Francesco Dall’Olio (RPA – LuigiBacchi.it Perugia): “We are left with a little bit of bitterness in our mouth for this result. We wasted some chances we had and the key of it all was the 4th set. Padova was more relaxed than us at tie break”.

MVP: Peter Platenik (Antonveneta Padova)

Milano – Sparkling, with new president Lapo Elkann for the first time in the stands, finds victory agains after a very long and suffered match but full of emotions. Milano sticks together at difficult times and led by MVP Gabriel Gardner (26 points with 46% in attack) brings home 2 very important points for the Italian Cup. Also to highlight middle blockers Millar’s (13 points and 3 blocks) and Spairani’s performances (10 points and 3 blocks) with a block by Gardner on Gavotto forcing Ricci to time out . At the second TTO the guests are one points ahead and then up to 18-16 with Velasco calling TO. After going on 23-23 Ricci calls his second TO.  It is head to head until Gavotto closes with an ace on Vicini for 28-30.

In the second set Gardner goes back in and with two blocks in a row (13-10) forces Velasco to call TO but Gardner scores the 14th point and the Argentine coach changes the setter.  Milano goes to the second TTO 5 points ahead and on 20 points with a block by Spairani on Howard with ontichiari 6 points behind. Giombini – in for Samica to raise the blocking – scores the 23-16 which ends up closing the set  on 25-18. In the third set Milano starts well and goes on 10-7, then they switch off and on 12-15 Ricci takes his second TO.  At the second TTO the black&silver are three points behind but then reach 23-23 and Sparkling wins the set.
In the 4th set on 11-11, Montichiari realises a 4-0 with Sale serving (floating) then Milano goes back to -2 with Rosalba’s block in for Samica a few minutes earlier. At the second TTO they are 3 points behind, Milano goes back to -1 but on 16-19 Ricci calls a time out again. On 16-20 Samica goes back in for Rosalba. Martino gets a wrong attack and Gardner is blocked by Bojovic closing the set on 19-25.

Milano starts the tie break with the starting six while Velasco confirms Bojovic as diagonal player. Sparkling goes on 4-1 then 4-4. Samica signs the 10-7 and Spairani 12-9. Montichiari comes back with Sala and Veres (12-11) with Ricci calling TO. Then Gardner blocks Bojovic for 13-11 with Velasco stopping the game. It is 13-13 then head to head up to Sparkling victory for 19-17.

Gabriel Gardner (Sparkling Milano): “We kept on fighting, the main thing is to keep playing like that. We have had highs and lows during the match but we kept a good level during tie break. We must carry on working with continuity and I believe we will do it after the break too. I am not worried about my shape, given I will play everyday with the national team, or my tema mates’ shape. I just hope they won’t eat too much during the Chritsmas holiday”.

Daniele Ricci (Sparkling Milano): “We have battled a lot but the positive thing is that we got over difficult moments against a team which is cerainly more equipped that others we met. They made it really difficult for us in the middle and they digged very well, making it difficult for us to close each point. Ours is a young team and none of our starting six are very experienced that is why playing for such a long time and winning is a good test. We served well but you can tell some of the national team players are a bit tired. In the 4th set we could have done better  and close earlier but I am happy this way!.

Lapo Elkann (Pres. Sparkling Milano): “I have had a good time, it was a good match an I am happy we won. Mostly I am impressed with the warm audience”.

Julio Velasco (Acqua Paradiso Gabeca Montichiari): “At tie break we have made some mistakes which costed the match. In the whole match our main problems were in the side-out. We must say that we fought till the very end, we have not always done that”.

MVP: Gabriel Gardner (Sparkling Milano)
