Tuesday 3: Exprivia Molfetta-CMC Romagna, at 8.30pm live on RAI Sport 1

CALZEDONIA VERONA – DHL MODENA 0-3 (19-25, 17-25, 17-25) CALZEDONIA VERONA: Zingel 6, Kovacevic, Pesaresi (L), Gitto, Lecat 2, Spirito, Baranowicz, Starovic 9, Sander 12, Anzani 5. DNP Frigo, Bellei, Bucko. Coach. Giani.

DHL MODENA: Mossa De Rezende 2, Donadio (L), Petric 9, Rossini (L), Ngapeth 16, Nikic, Piano 9, Saatkamp 11, Vettori 12, Sighinolfi 2. DNP Soli, Casadei, Sartoretti, Bossi. Coach. Lorenzetti.

Verona’s first home game ended with a severe defeat against Modena. The hosts found it hard in attack while Modena fired on all cylinders.

Angelo Lorenzetti (coach DHL Modena): “At the start of the season, the games are always difficult. There is not much time to train, there are games and physical problems, so it’s not easy to analyse the results. These are three important points for the Italian Cup. Our players already know each other, which is one difference compared to Verona”.

Michele Baranowicz (Calzedonia Verona): “We had a poor game, and they played very well. We have to forget about it, analyse what went wrong and focus immediately on the next game against Latina. We did not trouble them with our serve, unlike them. They always had the ball in hand, we have to work hard to get better”.

REVIVRE MILANO – SIR SAFETY CONAD PERUGIA 0-3 (14-25, 19-25, 22-25) – REVIVRE MILANO: Alletti 4, Sottile 1, Sbertoli, Russomanno Dos Santos 5, Tosi (L), De Togni, Galaverna 17, Burgsthaler 3, Marretta 7. DNP Milushev, Gavenda, Borovnjak, Rivan. Coach. Monti.

SIR SAFETY CONAD PERUGIA: Buti 5, Fromm 15, De Cecco 1, Kaliberda 8, Giovi (L), Tzioumakas 1, Atanasijevic 16, Fanuli, Birarelli 6. DNP Holt, Russell, Dimitrov, Elia. Coach. Castellani.

Before the game, Aimone Alletti received the “Best Server” award for the 2014-15 season. Once again, Milan had to send an improvised line-up on court due to injuries and they struggled from the start. Perugia dominated the encounter in straight sets. MVP: Christian Fromm (Sir Safety Conad Perugia).

Matteo Burgsthaler (Revivre Milano): “Perugia’s starting six aims at winning the CEV Cup and finishing among the top four in the league. The gap is still too big to be able to compare the two squads. We tried our best, and the third set proved that we can do better. We’ll try to get all our players back. Perugia made some impossible plays down the stretch which is a sign of an organised team with players who have been together for a long time”.

Christian Fromm (Sir Safety Conad Perugia): “We played better than last week, I have to congratulate the boys and the fans. Hopefully, we’ll keep doing as well”.

DIATEC TRENTINO – TONAZZO PADOVA 3-1 (25-15, 25-22, 23-25, 25-23) – DIATEC TRENTINO: Nelli 6, Antonov 8, De Angelis, Giannelli 5, Lanza 20, Solé 17, Djuric 8, Colaci (L), Van De Voorde 7, Mazzone. DNP Mazzone, Bratoev. Coach. Stoytchev.

TONAZZO PADOVA: Cook 6, Leoni, Orduna 5, Giannotti 25, Balaso (L), Quiroga 6, Volpato 12, Averill 14, Berger 1, Milan 1, Diamantini. DNP Bassanello, Lazzaretto. Coach. Baldovin.

Trentino celebrated its home debut with a victory at the expense of Padova. This is the second 3-1 triumph for the Italian champions after Wednesday’s win in Monza. Trento will therefore sit already at the top, which will help to prepare better the coming Champions League game against Maaseik to be played home on Thursday. Stoytchev’s line-up has never been that young, but top scorer Lanza, Giannelli and Antonov already play like veterans. They were well guided by Solé, MVP of the game (3 blocks). As for Padova, too many mistakes in the clutch moments of the game cost them dearly.

Sebastian Solé (Diatec Trentino): “We won a very tough game. Congratulations to Padova who played brilliant dig. I am thrilled with the victory, these are three crucial points. Our understanding with Giannelli is getting better and better. We’re doing well in attack and at the net. Now we have to focus on the next games coming up this week. We’re ready for it”.

Valerio Baldovin (Tonazzo Padova): “In spite of how the first set went, our quality of play was better than against Latina. From the second set on, we deflected more balls at the net, played good dig and created many opportunities on the counter. There’s still a lot of work to be done because the standard requested in the SuperLega is what it is. We could have pushed Trento to the fifth but we’ll take the positive out of today’s outing to improve further”.

CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE CIVITANOVA – LPR PIACENZA 3-1 (25-18, 21-25, 25-17, 25-20) – CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE CIVITANOVA: Fei, Gabriele 3, Parodi 1, Juantorena 19, Stankovic 8, Sabbi 24, Christenson 5, Grebennikov (L), Corvetta, Podrascanin 13. DNP Vitelli, Cester, Cebulj. Coach. Blengini.

LPR PIACENZA: Manià (L), Coscione, Kohut 8, Ter Horst 19, Perrin 15, Papi 1, Sedlacek, Patriarca 7, Zlatanov 3, Luburic 1, Tencati 1, Tavares Rodrigues. DNP Cottarelli. Coach. Giuliani.

Some big names on the side line for coach Blengini, who has to make do without Miljkovic, Cebulj and Kovar. But Civitanova has a lot of resources. After last week’s come-back win in Forlì, they took all three points against Piacenza in front of over three thousand supporters. Setter Christenson distributed to perfection and was named MVP in his full debut in the SuperLega, while Sabbi finished top scorer with 24 points (64% in attack, 1 block).

Gianlorenzo Blengini (coach Cucine Lube Banca Marche Civitanova): “I think today we could see how good this team can be. The boys have been very aggressive and the dig was a crucial element of this victory. We have found it hard only in the second set, it’s no wonder we lost it. But then we were back at full speed in the fourth, we played with the kind of determination we’ll need all season, and we took three important points in front of our amazing fans”.

Hristo Zlatanov (LPR PIACENZA): “We did not have a brilliant game, but after a poor first set things went slightly better, although it is obvious that we are at the start of the season, we’ll really need to work hard to make things happen as it should”.

NINFA LATINA – GI GROUP MONZA 3-2 (25-23, 25-27, 25-17, 23-25, 15-13) – NINFA LATINA: Krumins, Mattei 5, Sket 18, Pavlov 20, Ferenciac, Romiti (L), Boninfante 1, Tailli, Hirsch 2, Yosifov 18, Rossi 4, Maruotti 14. Coach. Placì.

GI GROUP MONZA: Sala 1, Daldello 1, Galliani, Mercorio, Jovovic 3, Rizzo (L), Botto 18, Verhees 7, Beretta 9, Zanatta Buiatti 18, Rousseaux 16, Gao 1. DNP Brunetti. Coach. Vacondio.

Winning home debut for Latina who managed to overcome a feisty Monza team at the tie-break. It was tight all the way though the quality of the game was not especially brilliant. Many mistakes from both sides. Both coaches used their bench a lot as the pre-season heavy loads of work still have to be assimilated. In the tie-break, Monza had had the better start, taking a 4-1 lead on a Beretta ace. Maruotti was the one to bring Latina back on level terms at 7-7. Maruotti again for 11-10, then Hirsch came on and sealed it 15-13. MVP: Viktor Yosifov

Pieter Verhees (Gi Group Monza): “Always nice to come back to Latina. We have to be happy with the point taken here. All the sets were tight. We have probably made too many mistakes, we have to improve on that”.

Andrea Mattei (Ninfa Latina): “I have to say it was a tough game. The game against Verona will be much different, we’ll need to play better to win that one”.
