The 25th edition of the Del Monte Junior League – Massimo Serenelli trophy – goes to Modena. In the Under 19 final taking place in Castellana Grotte, they had the better of Civitanova in the tie-break. Modena’s name makes it among the competition winners for the first time in history. This year’s event has been ever so tight and the final was no different. There had been two tie-breaks to decide the semi-finals and in the final again it went all the way.
Tomisini’s boys have not dominated all the encounters. They had shared the first two sets with the team led by coach Rosichini and Paparoni, while they had to come back from 23-21 down in the third to take a 2-1 lead. But Civitanova had not said its last word, they found the resources to tie it and forced a deciding fifth set. Mistakes, especially on the serve, have cost Civitanova dear in this last battle. From 9-9, Modena escaped to win it 15-12.
Modena celebrated as the Italian League CEO, Massimo Righi, handed the medals and the trophy.
