In last game in career for Papi and Zlatanov, Piacenza wasn’t able to double last season’s win in Playoff Challenge, with Bunge Ravenna who clinched the access to Challenge Cup by winning the final at tie break. Ravenna was focused and consistent all game long, able to profite of the mistakes of Piacenza. Van Garderen and Lyneel were great for Bunge, on the other hand as usual good game for Hernandez (20 points) and Alletti (17 points, with 100% in attack in four sets out of five). All the sets were battles, in first was Ravenna to take home the set 25-23, in second Piacenza prevailed at the extras 26-24. In third Piacenza started with right step, keeping the lead all set long and winning 25-21, taking the lead in the game. In fourth Ravenna fought back, earning the tie in the count of the sets by winning 25-23 another battle, forcing the game to tie break. In the decisive fifth, Bunge was great in attack, winning the set 15-12 and clinching the access to 2018 Challenge Cup.
Aimone Alletti (LPR Piacenza): “At tie break Ravenna was great in the fundamental of serve, but we gained confidence and we came back into the game, from 2-9 until 12-14, we tried all the ways but we did not reached our goal. We were tired, they were tired too, both teams played some long games in these past 24 hours, but this isn’t an excuse for us”.
Fabio Soli (Bunge Ravenna): “In my career I had the lucky to coach together important coaches, and they teached me that in sport, sometimes you need luck, whixch helps all the ones who believe until the end. We arrived here with a young bunch of players, and at the end of fourth set I gave them a tip: play the way you feel, and have fun. And this was a miracle. They did a miracle. Piacenza was good in trying all the ways to win, but we won, and the dream became true”.
