«This is a group that can only grow. We have changed a lot, we cannot expect the boys to play every game as if they have always been together.” The vice president of Belluno Volley, Andrea Gallina, is not only an incurable optimist (“it’s true – he smiles – I always tend to see the glass half full”), but he is also and above all a thoughtful person, who has the merit of not stopping on the surface.
STRANGE CHAMPIONSHIP – For this reason, Gallina doesn’t give too much importance to the current fifth place. And he goes further, while remaining anchored to the present and to a solid pragmatism: «In every match, the boys showed improvements. Perhaps the only “hole in the water” was in Pavia against Garlasco. Because in San Donà di Piave, where everyone is losing, the collective played good volleyball. It should never be forgotten that there are others on the field too. And all top-level opponents, within a very balanced championship. It’s quite strange.” The number two of the Dolomite club brings his mind back to the debut match: «When we beat Cagliari, on our debut, it seemed that we had only done our duty, facing an opponent of little importance. But this is not the case: Cus has proven to be a formidable customer. Not surprisingly, he has the same points as us.”
MERITS OF THE STAFF – Gallina does not lose his smile even in the face of the two losses incurred between October and November: «If we really had to lose a few games, it is better that the defeats occurred away from home. At home, the public becomes more attached. Beyond the jokes, we achieved a series of excellent results at the Spes Arena and without ever losing a point along the way: it wasn’t easy, nor to be taken for granted.” Just as it wasn’t obvious to violate the Sarroch parquet, after being 2-0 down in the sets: «Congratulations to the boys, but I would like to underline the merits of the technical staff. Coach Colussi and deputy De Cecco read the match in the best possible way and rebalanced the team with the substitution of Gonzalo Martinez. It is enough to look at the number of errors: almost twenty in the first two sets, a handful in the other three. It was a victory for the group, including the bench: everyone who was called into action gave a hand.”
