“The history of volleyball” is the new book created by Lorenzo Dallari: an almost infinite journey into the volleyball universe, from its origins to the present day.
This is the author’s description: “This book tells the story of the sport I loved most: I played it with enthusiasm for years, I told it with passion for a lifetime, I studied it carefully in every aspect. In this volume I wanted to revisit volleyball from the day of its invention, which took place on February 6, 1895 thanks to the fervid mind of Professor William George Morgan. I chose to give a chronological order, identifying not only the results but also the facts that have characterized these 128 very intense years. I have tried to bring back to mind an infinite number of events and details that I have experienced, I have read books, I have re-read magazines, I have looked for scattered and somewhat faded notes, I have reviewed videos, I have consulted the web, I have asked friends. In these pages you can relive the victories of the Azzurri and Azzurri, united by the emotion of wearing a shirt in which the writing on the front, i.e. Italy, is more important than their surname printed on the back. Leafing through the book you can find the men’s and women’s championships, the European Cups since they were conceived, the various international tournaments and then European, World Cup, Olympics, World League, World Grand Prix, Volleyball Nations League. Without forgetting an infinite number of photographs and the many changes made to the regulation, the names of all the presidents of the Leagues, the Federation, the CEV and the FIVB. It was a long and articulated journey, which required three very long years of research and writing, sometimes working during the day and often at night: my aim was to give life to a kind of volleyball testament, creating an easy-to-read book that can stimulate the imagination of the youngest and bring back memories in the hearts and minds of those who have the privilege of guarding them”.
The book uses the preface by the president of CONI Giovanni Malagò, the president of the Italian Volleyball Federation Giuseppe Manfredi and the president of the Emilia-Romagna Region Stefano Bonaccini, and will be available from 15 July 2023.
