DEL MONTE® MVP: Wassim Ben Tara (Sir Susa Vim Perugia)

Sir Susa Vim Perugia won the tie break against Cucine Lube Civitanova in the sold out Biella Forum and won the fifth Del Monte® Super Cup in the club’s history.

The celebration of the Juventus group explodes, of Angelo Lorenzetti (in his fourth Super Cup with four different clubs), of all the staff, of the fans who came from far away Perugia to support their favorites and of the many volleyball enthusiasts from Biella and beyond. He exploded at the end of a very tough match with Lube excellent in the first two sets and also ahead with merit in the third up to 20-17. Then something happens in the Block Devils. Ben Tara and Leon find winning serves and everything changes. In the fourth set Perugia canceled out 6 match points against Civitanova, while in the fifth set Giannelli and his teammates ran away and never stopped.

Del Monte® MVP of the event is Wassim Ben Tara: the Tunisian opposite starts his Italian adventure in the best possible way, closing the Final with 21 winning balls, many in the hot moments of the match (with 5 aces). There are also 21 points for captain Leon (with 3 aces), 20 for the metronome Semeniuk. Flavio closes in double figures at 13 with 5 winning blocks.

Gianlorenzo Blengini (Coach Cucine Lube Civitanova): “Perugia won because they managed to stay attached to the match even when they found themselves 2-0 down in the sets. We had our opportunities, but unfortunately we weren’t able to exploit them. Tonight we played our race, we wanted to win and I think this showed. Comparisons like this are decided for a few balls and so it was. On Sunday in Civitanova we will face Perugia again. To get there as best we can, we will have to let our heads cool down and get over the disappointment of this defeat because the boys really wanted this Final.”

Simone Giannelli (Sir Susa Vim Perugia): “Winning is always beautiful. I’m really happy, the Super Cup is a difficult trophy that comes straight away. I’m happy because it’s another trophy for Perugia, I’m happy to see everyone, staff and fans, happy and content and I’m proud of the team because we came together in difficult times. We told ourselves to use the Super Cup to grow as a group and add value to the words family and group that we say to each other in the gym and tonight was a concrete example. I congratulate Ben Tara because in the third set he turned it around. Well done everyone, now let’s get back to work.”
