Japan won the Asian Championship in Urmia (Iran) which they had been missing since 2017. After closing the initial round by beating Thailand and Uzbekistan 3-0, they prevailed 3-0 over Bahrain in the quarter-finals and 3- 1 to Qatar in the semifinals and 3-0 to hosts Iran in the final. Ran Takahashi was awarded as the best spiker of the tournament, in the first match he finished with 5 points and did not take the field in the second. He was the top scorer both against Bahrain with 12 points (81.8% on offense and 3 aces), 28.6% of excellent receptions, and against Qatar with 19 points (75% on offense and 1 block), 52.2% on receptions; in the final he scored 10 points (2 aces) with 44.4% in attack.
