Work in progress at the PalaBarton for Sir Safety Susa Perugia.
The Block Devils resumed their weekly training sessions yesterday morning at the Pian di Massiano facility in view of the event scheduled for the weekend at the Palazzetto dello Sport in Rome where the Final Four of the Del Monte® Cup is scheduled for Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 Italy.
Technical work session for coach Anastasi’s boys this afternoon, double appointment tomorrow (physical in the morning and with the ball in the afternoon session), departure for the capital on Friday morning with training in the afternoon to test the lights and distances of the impressive facility of game.
The ninth Final Four of the Italian Cup for the company of president Sirci will be in Rome (the tenth also considering that of Serie A2 in the 2011-2012 season). A story that began in the 2013-2014 season and which saw the Block Devils lift the trophy to the sky on three occasions (2017-2018, 2018-2019 and 2021-2022 seasons), come out defeated in the final on three occasions (2013-2014 seasons , 2019-2020 and 2020-2021) and prematurely closing the Final Four in the semifinals twice (2014-2015 and 2015-2016 seasons).
Among the players in the squad, the undisputed record holder in terms of successes in the Italian Cup is the bianconeri Massimo Colaci, who just blew out thirty-eight candles yesterday. The Salento second line specialist boasts five victories in the competition (three with the Perugia shirt, two with that of Trento). Leon and Piccinelli lifted two trophies, one each for Giannelli, Solè, Russo and Plotnytskyi. Five absolute debutants in a Final Four of the Del Monte® Coppa Italia are the Cubans Herrera and Cardenas, the Slovenian Ropret, the Brazilian Flavio and the Polish Semeniuk.
Two curiosities remaining to the players’ roster.
The first concerns Rychlicki who boasts three titles in his palmares in the Italian Cup and who has not descended from the top step of the podium continuously for three seasons (victories with Civitanova in the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 seasons and victory with Perugia in the 2021-2022 season ).
The second is owned by Stefano Mengozzi, the only one in the black and white squad to have won both the Serie A2 Italian Cup (with Milan in the 2006-2007 season) and the A1 Italian Cup (with Perugia last season).
Finally, the Juventus coach Andrea Anastasi returns to a Final Four of the Italian Cup after eighteen seasons in his third kermesse as a coach after that of the 1995-1996 season on the Montichiari bench and that of the 2003-2004 season where he sat on that of Cuneo.
