The new coach of Gioiella Prisma Taranto for the 2024-25 season will be Dante Boninfante.

The former setter, born in Battipaglia in 1977, has a long career behind him in the Super League between Treviso, Ferrara, Montichiari, Verona, Piacenza, Modena, Latina, Milan and Trento, with 2 championships, a Champions League, 2 Cups to his credit Italy, a CEV Cup, a European Super Cup, an Italian Super Cup and, last but not least, the bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics.

Boninfante began his coaching profession in 2017, for three years he was Angelo Lorenzetti’s assistant at Itas Trentino, then in 2021 he made his debut as first coach at Prata di Pordenone, where he spent 3 seasons obtaining the victory of the Italian Cup and the A3 championship, with promotion to Serie A2 with Tinet Prata where he is currently working to face the play offs. He has also been coach of the Greek national team since 2022, an experience that lasted two years where he was able to learn a lot and enrich his knowledge of volleyball at an international level.

“Coming to Taranto is a further step in my career – declares coach Boninfante – which certainly brings with it a stimulating challenge, the nice chat I had with the management and with the Presidency further stimulated me to accept the proposal: I expect to bring a lot of work, in recent years I have learned between the Super League, A2, A3 that what counts is work and sacrifice”.

“ Am I ready to face a Super League as a head coach? – continues Boninfante – I believe that the period of work with the Greek national team most of all helped me to accumulate experience for the category, having had to deal with athletes of international caliber. The Super League is tough, the recipe for being able to compete in the top series is work combined with a lot of enthusiasm, it is what I hope to bring to the end of my journey in Prata, it has always been my philosophy and approach to volleyball since I was playing. I say to the fans of Taranto that when we get to know each other personally it will be wonderful, I know what it means to carry forward volleyball in Southern Italy and I hope that we will be able to grow together and fill the PalaMazzola match after match”.

President Tonio Bongiovanni presents it like this: “We have thoroughly evaluated the profiles of the coaches who could lead Gioiella Prisma Taranto in the next Super League championship.
