Training has resumed at PalaEstra in view of the next Emma Villas Siena championship match. And it will be another home match, to be played in the sports hall in Viale Sclavo. The appointment is set for Sunday 17 March, the opponent will be Delta Group Porto Viro.

It will be yet another playoff starter, as both teams are already certain of going to the playoffs. Emma Villas Siena is currently in third position in the standings with 50 points, Porto Viro is seventh with 41 points and is certain of participation in the playoffs. However, it remains to be understood what positions will be occupied by the two teams in the playoff grid.

Sunday’s match will be valid for the twelfth day of the second round of the A2 championship, the penultimate of the regular season. Last day both Siena and Porto Viro achieved success: the Sienese won 3-2 at home against Aversa, while the Delta Group achieved a 3-1 victory against Cantù.

Coach Gianluca Graziosi’s team took the lead twice against Aversa, but was overtaken both times by the Campania team. Then, in the tiebreak, Emma Villas prevailed. MVP of the match was the Brazilian opposite Matheus Krauchuk, author of 26 points and with 52% in attack: 9 break points and also 2 aces and two winning blocks for him. Sebastiano Milan also did very well, scoring 19 points (with 61% in attack) and Marco Pierotti also scored in double figures with 12 points on the scoresheet.

Against Cantù Porto Viro won the first set, suffered the return of the Brianza team in the second set but the Delta Group then accelerated: victory in the third set 25-23 and domination in the fourth set, even closing at 25-13. Excellent performance for Tommaso Barotto, author of 25 points and with 56% in attack, also worth highlighting the performances of Nicola Tiozzo (15 points) and Felice Sette (12 points).

“It was a tough match and Aversa played very well – was the post-match comment from Sebastiano Milan, spiker for Emma Villas Siena. – On the other hand, they have players of the caliber of Argenta, Rossini, Canuto, Pinelli on their roster, all excellent volleyball players. Then Lyutskanov and excellent central defenders, so they are a truly complete team. It was a difficult match and so we are happy and happy with the victory. We also knew that in their DNA they have the ability to fight and recover even after losing a set. It was a hard-fought match and I think it was also a good show for the spectators who were present at PalaEstra.”
