After the preseason tests, the last of which saw Green Volley participate in the Memorial Moschetti tournament alongside Joy Volley and BCC Castellana Grotte, the championship bursts into life with its intense and exciting debut. There’s a lot of excitement in the city, not only among fans and elite athletes but also among ordinary people. The crowds in the square talk about Serie A with surprise and admiration: is it possible, one wonders, that Galatone is soaring? The volleyball fan acts the know-it-all. He uses the “we’re in Serie A” slogan as if he were the sole protagonist of the two gems—promotion and the Coppa Italia—accomplished by Coach Licchelli’s team. Then he calms down and sings praises for everyone—players, club, fans, and sponsors—but the anticipation is intense. The management team seems the least affected by this emotional pressure, or perhaps they are better able to hide the tension of a debut in the third national series championship than an unrestrained fan base.
