Perugia must wait almost two and a half hours of play to find out their opponent in the Champions League Final: the Polish team Warta Zawierce coached by Michal Winiarski will compete with the Block Devils for the trophy of the top club competition at continental level.
Zawierce gains access to the final against all odds, after a fiery start by Jastrzebski Wegiel who starts more cynically, pushed by a super Fornal at the start (10 points on the scoresheet with 2 aces and 2 blocks in the first set alone) and wins two sets with ease by a wide margin (25-19, 25-18). Zawierce overturns the result, ties the scores, takes the match to a tiebreak and takes the last set, gaining access to the final with Perugia.
Very tense and at times almost “dark-eyed”, with numerous errors on both sides and an interminable point by point, the last partial ends in advantages, giving a great show at the Atlas Arena in Łódź.
Coach Lorenzetti: we will have to be very careful in the break phase to limit errors
«A very balanced match was expected and in the end it was, even if it didn’t seem so at the beginning – commented Angelo Lorenzetti immediately after the match – the indications for tomorrow are limited because this team here, just before the semifinal, suffered an injury to the opposite hitter who returned in the third set today and we saw the importance of this player for this team.
