Italy’s journey at the 2025 Universiade in Berlin ended with a bronze medal thanks to a 3-1 victory over Japan in the third-place match.

After successfully progressing through the group stage, with three wins in as many matches, and the quarterfinals against the Czech Republic, the Azzurri failed to secure a spot in the tournament, falling to Brazil in a tie-break in the semifinals. However, they put in a strong performance against the Japanese team, thus finishing in third place. Francesco Sani delivered a solid performance, scoring 21 points, including three blocks and two aces.
