“Italy is a democratic republic founded on work and volleyball.” This is how the Honorable Mauro Berruto, Member of Parliament, ironically writes of the very Republic he himself cites, of which he was coach from 2010 to 2015. A post posted, as often happens these days, on his social media profiles, a phrase that, with an extraordinary feat of succinctness, describes a special Sunday, destined to remain indelible in the annals of this sport. Starting with coach Blengini, also a former coach of the Azzurri, and continuing with Aleksandar Nikolov (playing for Lube Civitanova), Atanasov (Monza), Nacev (Padova), Zhelev (Macerata), Preslav Petkov (Sorrento), not forgetting Asparuhov and Grozdanov, who have already played for Italy in the recent past.
“We still can’t quite grasp what we’ve accomplished in the last few days,” Petkov and Tatarov chorus. “It’s all absolutely incredible, a journey that began quietly and continued with thousands of people, game after game, ready to cheer us on for what we were capable of on the field. A fantastic experience, one that will remain etched in our minds and hearts for a lifetime, and one that we hope will represent a wonderful starting point.”
