An incredible and emotional success for the Italian national team, which yesterday became World Champion for the fifth time in its history, the second in a row after the 2022 triumph. This victory further demonstrated the growth of the Italian volleyball movement, closely linked to that of the Credem Banca SuperLega.
Massimo Righi, President of the Lega Pallavolo Serie A, also closely followed the Italian team’s exploits in the Philippines, and commented on the national team’s success.
My compliments go first and foremost to President Manfredi for the vision and foresight with which he has planned the final years of the national team’s activity.
We are proud of the extraordinary number of Serie A athletes who took part in the World Championship: 55 will play in Italy, while 19 of the 28 players on the rosters of the two finalists will play in our leagues. Not to mention that all the Italian World Champions come from the SuperLega.
A fantastic season awaits us, full of unmissable events: in a few weeks, the Credem Banca SuperLega will begin, and after just a few days, it will be time to travel to Saudi Arabia for the Del Monte® Supercoppa, the first volleyball event held abroad.
Our championship grows year after year, offering a top-notch technical, physical, and organizational spectacle, followed and appreciated internationally. We’ve already mentioned this on several occasions, but perhaps the time has truly come to consider whether it’s worth increasing the number of teams participating in the SuperLega, for an even more widespread expansion of this sport in Italy. We’ll discuss this with the Federation and the FIVB: their collaboration will be crucial in developing the plans for upcoming seasons.
Finally, I would like to emphasize one last aspect, without which all of Italy’s successes would not be possible: our clubs, aware of their fundamental contribution to maintaining the high level of the national team and the SuperLega, will continue to guarantee significant investments in their youth sectors.
It was also a great success with the public, with nearly 3.4 million viewers watching the final between Italy and Bulgaria on Rai 2 alone (25.8% share), in addition to viewers watching from around the world.
Italy also dominated the starting six, with four Italians (Giannelli, Balaso, Michieletto, and Romanò); furthermore, six of the seven athletes have played in Italy or will play in the Credem Banca SuperLega next season (Nikolov will be wearing the Civitanova jersey for the fourth year, while Grozdanov has played in Verona).
