And that’s fifteen. A new chapter has been added to Egon Lamprecht’s incredible volleyball career with Delta Volley Porto Viro: the 185-centimeter-tall libero from South Tyrol, born in 1980, has extended his contract with the Polesine club for another year and is preparing to play his fifteenth consecutive season in the black and fuchsia jersey, his eighth in Serie A.
A player without end, without time, Lamprecht began playing in the senior categories thirty years ago and has since progressed with Delta Volley, from Serie D to Serie A2, first as a spiker and then as a libero. Next season, the Bolzano native will again be Davide Morgese’s assistant, forming a duo of highly experienced and reliable second-line specialists.
Lamprecht’s career includes 192 Serie A matches (141 in A2, 51 in A3) and 651 perfect receptions (32.4% of the total). These numbers only partially reflect an extraordinary sporting longevity and, above all, they don’t fully explain the unbreakable bond he’s built with the club and the city of Porto Viro: “Honestly, I’m amazed I’m still playing, and I know my volleyball career won’t last forever. I’ve always said and written, however, that as long as Delta Volley exists, I’ll try to be there as a player, and I think I’ll end my career right here. I would have liked to reach Serie A as a spiker, which is my original position, but I’ve never been able to dedicate myself solely to volleyball, and unfortunately, my height has also limited me a bit.”
