After yesterday’s focus on previous matches, the “Towards the Scudetto Finals” journey of the SuperLega Credem Banca Playoffs continues with an analysis of previous Scudetto Finals between Sir Susa Scai Perugia and Cucine Lube Civitanova.

Overall previous matches between Perugia and Civitanova: an in-depth look
The series that begins on Thursday, April 30th will be the sixth between these two teams, making it the most played Final in the history of the SuperLega/A1. There have been five Finals before this year’s (2014, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022), with the historic precedent between Modena and Treviso (five finals between the two teams) about to be surpassed.

Previous Final Matches between Sir Susa Scai Perugia and Cucine Lube Civitanova
The first matchup dates back to the 2013/14 season, with Civitanova winning in four games, celebrating the Scudetto at Perugia with a 3-1 victory (among the stars, Marko Podrascanin, still playing for Civitanova, was awarded the MVP award). It would then be four years before the Cucinieri and Block Devils faced off again in a Scudetto Final, and the opportunity presented itself in 2017/18, when it was Patron Sirci’s club that celebrated: the series went to Game 5, with Perugia winning the final 3-0, led by Aleksandar Atanasijevic.

The following year, Cucine Lube Civitanova had the opportunity to avenge their defeat in the previous season, and they succeeded, coming from behind to win Game 5 once again at the home of their opponents Perugia, with Osmany Juantorena (MVP) among the key players.

With the 2019/20 Scudetto not awarded due to Covid-19, the two teams cannibalized the Scudetto Final in 2020/21 and 2021/22, with Civitanova having the strength to prevail in both cases, always reaching Game 4 and celebrating the title in front of their home crowd, with Juantorena once again the protagonist and MVP of the Final. As mentioned, in 2022, Lube managed to repeat the feat, with Robertlandy Simon taking center stage and being awarded the Final MVP.
