There couldn’t have been a more fitting day than the first anniversary of promotion to the SuperLega to announce Domenico “Mimmo” Cavaccini’s contract extension for a third consecutive season in Cuneo.
It’s inevitable to relive those playoffs, that Thursday, April 24th, in a Cuneo arena that had been sold out for several days. 4,700 people literally pushed the team to victory and the SuperLega title with their cheers, applause, and heartbeats.
The press conference regarding Cavaccini’s reappointment, whose determination won over and enthused the white-and-blue crowd, couldn’t have been held on any other day than today, because it’s precisely that bond that has made the difference in this continued side-by-side relationship. Nor is the location coincidental: the headquarters of Cuneo Inox, which, in addition to being the jersey sponsor for the Libero position, has also developed a true bond of respect and friendship with Mimmo over the years.
During the press conference, Sporting Director Paolo Brugiafreddo began: “Next season will be Cavaccini’s third consecutive season with us. I’m very proud that we’ve been able to achieve this consistency, because it’s absolutely not a given. This continuity is the result of Mimmo’s all-round commitment, a commitment that goes beyond his work in the gym, a work he also carries off the pitch. Clearly, all of this is measured by the arena thermometer when the announcer calls his name and when he performs important technical moves. In every situation where he plays a leading role, the fans recognize all the enormous work he does for the team and the club. We’re ready to “restart” with him: this year has been a difficult one, we all knew it. The first year in the SuperLega was complicated for us as a club, a year in which he did everything he could to help us, and we know that next year will drain us less. After having had a season of promotion and a season of survival, we are ready to start Cuneo’s season 3.0″.
