Domotek Volley continues to impress and prepares for the playoff semifinals, to be played on April 25th at Acqui Terme on the Valenza court. After the disappointment of Game 5 in the playoff playoff against Conad Reggio Emilia, the Reggio team reclaimed the spotlight with a triumphant performance in the Del Monte Super Cup, lifting another trophy after already winning the Coppa Italia. Commenting on the run was middle blocker Andrea Innocenzi, whose words put an end to any rhetoric about a psychological “reset.”
When asked how it was possible to erase the disappointment of the last match so quickly, Innocenzi responded bluntly: “No, we didn’t have to reset. We had to take the things we did well from the things we did and erase the things we did poorly. It’s not a reset: we see the good things and capitalize on them.”
For the center-back, the Super Cup was a game in itself, different from Game 5: “We played well, and I’m happy we won. We brought another trophy here to Reggio Calabria, we’re all extremely proud.”
An obligatory mention goes to the fans. The Curva Amaranto has followed the team through joys and sorrows, but Innocenzi is keen to clarify: “It’s normal now, and it’s sad to say because so many people come to see us in Reggio and away games all over Italy. It’s also a far cry from here: so many people come from as far north as the North. I’m very emotional, and I just want to thank them.”
Regarding the possibility of achieving the “treble”—that is, winning the Cup, Super Cup, and Promotion to Serie A2—Innocenzi isn’t giving away anything, but he doesn’t hide his ambitions either: “We’re in the running, so we’ll make the most of these two games against Acqui. I hope in the best possible way. Then, if that happens, we’ll see who we’ll play against.”
The warning, however, is clear: “First of all, we need to look at our opponent, Aqui, because they’re a good team. They knocked out Gioia del Colle earlier, and they knocked out Castellana, the surprise package of our group, with wins at both Gioia and Castellana. So we shouldn’t underestimate them: regular-season standings don’t matter now. We’ll see.”
