Viridex Sabaudia concluded the regular season with a convincing 3-1 victory over Campobasso, securing sixth place in the Blue Group standings of the Serie A3 men’s volleyball championship. With this finish, captain Onwuelo and his teammates will face ErmGroup Altotevere San Giustino, the third-place team in the White Group, in the round of 16 of the playoffs. The first leg is scheduled for next Sunday, March 22nd, at 6:00 PM at the Pala Vitaletti in Sabaudia, while the return match will be played on Sunday, March 29th, at 6:00 PM in San Giustino.
Excitement is building in the city for Sunday’s match, which will be crucial in the outcome of the double-header. “In these playoffs, the players’ mentality and desire to go as far as possible will make all the difference, as technically I think the team has the characteristics to go very far,” explains Paolo Torre, sporting director of Viridex Sabaudia. “We were inconsistent and unexciting in the second half of the season, despite injuries and dips in form that are natural for a stressful season. We expected a little more, that’s clear, looking at the games we lost—I’m thinking of the first and second legs against Modica—the red-letter errors that could have changed the final standings. In any case, we’re trying to take this season as a whole, as we reached the Coppa Italia Final Four for the first time in the club’s history, and to improve on last season’s final placing.”
