Sonepar Padova is starting to add height and quality to its middle blockers. Arriving directly from Germany is Joscha Kunstmann, born in 2003, a 6’1″ (201 cm) physique with a career built entirely in his homeland.
Having grown up in German volleyball, the young middle blocker honed his game at SVG Lüneburg, a club playing in the 1st Bundesliga, the top division of the German league, where he reached the finals on both occasions in the last two seasons.
For Kunstmann, Padova represents the first major international leap in his career: from the Bundesliga to the Superleague, Italy’s premier league.
“I’ve always dreamed of playing in the Superleague and I’ve heard a lot of positive things about this club. Everyone seems very helpful and professional. I can’t wait to meet them! For me, this is a great opportunity to realize my childhood dream.”
Despite his young age, Kunstmann presents himself as a well-defined technical figure with a clear identity.
“I’m a calm person, on and off the pitch. Being able to stay calm under pressure is my strength; it allows me to stay focused and convey that same feeling to my teammates.”
The young German already knows what he wants from his Padova adventure: to improve and become a key part of a team aiming high.
“My goal is to grow as a player but also as a person, to give my best contribution to the team and have a great season together. I’ve dreamed of coming here since I was 16; the Italian fans have a unique energy! I can’t wait to get started!”
