A fiery arena, a large crowd, and a heart-pounding volleyball atmosphere. The head of the Lega Pallavolo (Volleyball League) also arrived at the PalaCalafiore in Reggio Calabria for Game 4 of the Serie A2 promotion playoff between Domotek Volley Reggio Calabria and Conad Reggio Emilia.
Massimo Righi, president of Legavolley, appeared in the stands with a smile and bright eyes. Next to him were Legavolley Manager Franco Da Re and the national FIPAV vice president Sità.
And Righi himself admitted it without hesitation.
The president’s sincere praise emphasized not only the quality of the show on the court, but above all what happened in the stands. And here, the PalaCalafiore exceeded all expectations.
Righi made no secret of his admiration for the organization of the Reggio club: “Truly, congratulations to the club. I saw so many young people, very young, and incredible gender equality. Boys and girls, men and women: it’s not that easy to take for granted. And above all, it’s a great joy to cheer, to watch a show with the knowledge that you’re here to have fun.”
The president then added a concept close to Legavolley’s heart: sports education. “Of course, it’s better to win,” he joked, “but the spirit is that of those who are building a program to bring sports education to their fans. We’re on the right path.”
He couldn’t help but comment on the special atmosphere that has developed between the two teams, now regular opponents this season. Four playoff matches, plus a cup match, and soon the Super Cup (this coming Sunday): a rollercoaster of emotions that, however, has never turned the rivalry into hatred.
“These are teams that I now believe are brother and sister. Before the match, I saw the players joking and hanging out together.”
This is a value that Righi considers the jewel in the crown of Italian volleyball: “It’s something that proudly belongs to volleyball. Friendship, respect, non-violence: between the club, the players, and the fans. We vigorously defend having a public that respects and loves each other. It makes all the difference compared to other sports.”
